Gas metering station (GMS) is a complex of devices for automatic gas consumption measurement, as well as for its parameters control and registration. Gas metering station operating principle

The main task of the device is to record the gas volume flow rate under operating conditions. The operating principle is based on measuring the flow rate under operating conditions by a mass gas flowmeter (hereinafter referred to as the flowmeter) and calculating the gas volume converted to standard conditions based on the measured values, as well as displaying received measurement results on the operator’s panel.

Signals from the flowmeter go to a controller, where received data is processed and required physical quantities are calculated and converted to standard conditions. The controller provides communication with the operator panel for configuration, display and recieved data storage.

Flowmeter operating principle:

1. The channel walls are microchipped and the measuring unit contains two temperature sensors, one is upstream of a heater and another is downstream of the heater.
2. The temperature of incoming air is detected by a sensor. When the gas is static, temperature around the heater is the same and sensors show equal values.
3. During gas movement, a temperature field becomes asymmetric, which means that a temperature difference between sensors arises, which depends on air flow velocity. This difference can be used to determine air flow rate and flow direction.
4. Values received are transmitted as a 4-20 mA signal to PLC for further acquisition, processing and data output to the operator panel.

Data transfer types:

• ➔ analog output signal;
• ➔ upper level system communication – ModBus TCP;
• ➔ data transfer on actuators status (communication failure) and sensors readings.

Control system

The metering station is controlled using the operator panel located on the front of a cabinet.

Following parameters are displayed on the operator panel’s main screen:

• ✓ Current gas pressure (optional)

The “Menu” tab provides basic metering station software navigation using following tabs:

Following parameters are displayed in the “Statistics” tab:

• ✓ Gas volume per day since last “Reset”
• ✓ Gas volume per week since last “Reset”
• ✓ Gas volume per month since last “Reset”
• ✓ Gas volume per year since last “Reset”
• ✓ Total gas volume for whole equipment operation time

“Trends” tab displays dependence graphs of instantaneous values of the flow/pressure sensor on time at a current moment, starting point – last 24 hours. To view a pressure vs. time graph (optional) go to a second sheet of the tab

Parameters setpoints overrun is accompanied by a “notification” window on the operator panel and accident date and time recording in PLC internal memory registry log.

Possibility to select “flow rate” display unit (m3/hour – l/min) and enable/disable pressure sensor (optional)
