Adsorption Dryer Operating Principle
Two columns of the dryer are filled with a special moisture-absorbing substance—adsorbent (active aluminum oxide, zeolite, silica gel). Its service life is from 2,000 to 4,000 regeneration cycles.
Heat regeneration makes it possible to avoid large losses of compressed air after drying. A humid airstream passes through a pre-filter and enters the first column, where it is dried to a temperature of -40°C. The second column operates in regeneration mode, which consists of air heating up to 140 °C and its subsequent cooling with blowing. A molecular sieve (adsorbent) is dried by an electric heater.
The equipment operating principle is as follows:
- A compressor-pressurized stream of moist air enters the dryer and passes through a layer of pressurized adsorbent material; the moisture is adsorbed in the adsorbent layer, resulting in dried compressed air at the outlet.
- In parallel, another column receives a small portion of compressed dried air, which regenerates the adsorbent.
- The dried air is then fed to the outlet of the dryer and further into a pipeline system.
- All drying processes and operational readings are controlled by a control panel consisting of a PLC, operator panel, valves, and sensors.
Equipment Configuration:
- Pressure gauge.
- Pressurized vessel.
- Automated control system.
- Inlet/outlet air filtration system.
- Pneumatic silencer.
- Pneumatic air supply valves.
Air drying units can be optionally supplemented with the following instrumentation:
- Inlet and outlet air pressure sensors.
- Air dew point sensor at the outlet.
- Outlet air temperature sensor.
- Airflow meter at the unit outlet.
Adding a dew point sensor or flow meter allows you to control the adsorber cycle time, i.e., operate the equipment more efficiently and optimize energy costs at your plant.
The ONHS Company’s Heat Regenerated Adsorption Dryers Advantages
- Precise set dew point maintenance of -40°C (-70°C optional) at constant pressure.
- Higher drying unit energy efficiency compared to cold regeneration. Regeneration air is used at atmospheric pressure. At rated capacity, the air consumption is no more than 6%.
- Long production life—adsorber durability.
- Long maintenance interval.
- Simple installation and operation.
- Compact dimensions allow installation in a container.
Technical specifications and model range
Heat Regenerated Adsorption Dryer distinctive feature is a desorption mechanism. To regenerate the adsorbent, the compressed air taken for regeneration passes through a heater, after which its temperature rises to 180 °C. We use only special zeolites and silica gels as adsorbents.
